Dual Clutch - Technical Advice
NOTE: Parts shown are BARE-Co parts - original part numbers are shown
for reference only
SPARE PARTS:
During the 40 year
production run, LUK (Laycock) upgraded the linkages, top cover,
main and PTO pressure plates by changing component thickness.
If you replace (mix)
these items you may well have to do the job again.
New clutches are much
cheaper than major repair. Minor repairs should be confined
to the components on the next page ... Dual
Clutch Components.

PROBLEMS:
P.T.O will
not release
- Normally caused
by the PTO plate hub being damaged when the tractor is pushed
together. If you find the PTO plate distorted, it will have
happened during tractor assembly.
- If the PTO will
not release, try reducing the PTO clutch clearance (through
bottom inspection cover).
- Reducing clearance
from .085" to around .060" may eliminate the problem without
splitting the tractor.
Clutch Slipping Or
Excessive Pedal Travel
- Did you remove
the transport bolts?
- Has the flywheel
been machined without machining the step to correct dimension?
- Correct pedal
clearance (free play)?
- Did you fit the
correct amount of clutch to flywheel shims?
- Very early gold/grey
MF35 may req. extra flywheel shims.
Confirm pedal clearance during assembly

FLYWHEEL POT DEPTH
12" MF Coil
Spring Dual Clutches 39.75mm
11" MF Coil Spring
Dual Clutches 44.5mm (45.5mm with clutch shim)
|
WARNING !
- Some late tractors (MF2640
etc) with split torque clutches now have revised flywheel
depth to eliminate shims.
- Very old MF35 (4 cylinder)
with Belleville Spring Clutch had non-standard flywheel depth.
If fitting a new clutch you will probably require two sets
of shims.
Test pedal travel before full assembly.
